Guided by a Communal Spirit,
2019
Guided by a Communal Spirit intends to provide a journalistic approach to the rapid proliferation of countercultural and alternative communities that occurred throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The settlements recounted throughout this book include communes, religious cults, and collectives with varying ideologies and missions. This book neither valorizes nor villainizes these communities and seeks instead to treat them as notable social experiments regardless of their ultimate outcome.
